This unique and corner ground floor studio is a perfect choice for those who need ample space and accessibility.
The main source of inspiration, for the artist and owner of Mariya Art Living, Maria Bakaniari, was the surrounding scenery, as she entangled skillfully elements and forms from the underwater and ground landscape.
Each apartment is uniquely decorated with fine art paintings and artisanal objects while in keeping with a refined ambience and effortless luxury.
All the artworks that are hosted in Mariya Art Living, consist a body of work which was created during the time of construction of the project.
As an art lover and visual artist, Maria hopes to inspire her guests, offering another aspect of hospitality, in contrast with everything else that is already provided around the area.
Considering Mariya Art Living as something “alive”, Maria intends to host artwork from other artists, aiming to continuously upgrade and refresh this project that is curated from her, since the very beginning.
Two years ago, an old abandoned holiday residence goes out for sale. While at first sight, the whole project seemed quite disheartening -since the building dated back to 1973- Maria could already envision Mariya Art Living.
Two years of joy, pressure and constant changes, transformed the old structure into an innovative contemporary building of eight fully furnished apartments surrounded by a lash garden with aromatic herbs, olive and citrus trees.
The first image, of the exterior former space, seemed like a part of a small imaginary jungle. The plants were the predominant occupants of the residence -exploiting the absence of the owner- had literally taken over the entire yard while the tree leaves created an umbrella that hid the earth from the sky.
Toys and Christmas ornaments were carelessly “left” on trees branches as a reminiscent of our childhood.
This matching of elements and forms led to a combined artwork (drawings on paper and canvas, sculptures and handcrafted artisanal objects) all site specific for Mariya Art Living.
The art historian Stella Anastasaki says:
“The confrontation of the materials whose thickness varies, forms the illusion of a 3D effect. This way branches and tree trunks -under a different view- seem like beams of light that crosses the deep blue waters and touch the bottom of the sea, or corals, heaps and seaweeds decorate the landscape of a forest.”
